Error trying to add non-firm service contact

Question: I am attempting to add a non-firm service contact and I get this error: This firm already has a firm service contact by that email address. What does this mean and what do I do about it?

Answer: The eFileTexas system allows only one instance of an email address for the service contacts for a firm. This error message tells you that there is already a service contact listed for your firm with that email address. In every instance we have seen so far, someone from your firm has, unknowingly, added that counsel who is with another firm as a service contact for your firm.

The solution if for someone from your firm who is a firm eFiling administrator to remove that person as a service contact for your firm. After that is done, you can then add this person as a non-firm service contact for your firm.

After you remove this person as a service contact for your firm you can then add him/her as a non-firm service contact for your firm.
